Glen Moray 12, Bourbon Cask - ARCHIVED
$100.00This cask bottling, distilled in June of 2000, spent 12 years maturing in a first fill ex-bourbon barrel. It was bottled at cask strength in August of 2012 at 56.1% ABV. Cask #797 yielded 148 bottles (a surprisingly low number but we bought the whole cask and didn't share it with anyone... Well, except our Nation members!).
Our tasting notes are as follows:
Color: Oily blonde
Nose: Melted butter over sliced bananas, ripe apricots, stewed apples with golden raisins, yellow wine gums, and subtle wood spice
Palate: Abundant vanilla on entry then fruit cocktail in custard, returning melted butter and subtle wood spice
Finish: Long with fruit cocktail cherries and lingering creamy custard
On the label: Creamy and buttery with juicy ripe fruits, subtle wood spice, and abundant vanilla
Built as a brewery in 1831 the beautiful Glen Moray distillery was converted for whisky production in 1897. Standing on the banks of Elgin's river Lossie the distillery ranks among Scotland's most picturesque. Rarely found as a single cask bottling in the US, the house style is buttery and spicy with vanilla sweetness and a lovely, oily mouthfeel.
