This cask bottling, distilled in November of 1995, spent 18 years maturing in a refill ex-bourbon hogshead. It was bottled at a natural cask strength of 54.9% ABV in March of 2014. Cask #1661 yielded 277 bottles.
Our tasting notes are as follows:
Color: Pale Green Tea
Nose: A waxy nose which has a cereal sweetness that carries a hint of lavender gives way to anise candies and Love Hearts
Palate: Creamy in the mouth with more cereal sweetness, yellow wine gums, pear drops and a little ground ginger
Finish: Returning anise, slightly peppery with candied nuts
On the label: This creamy dram delivers cereal sweetness, floral notes and anise on the nose then ground ginger, pepper and candied nuts transition from palate to finish
Founded in 1898, Glen Elgin distillery didn't enter full time production until 1906. Located south of the town of Elgin the distillery produces spirit for the White Horse blend. Official bottlings of the single malt are rare with only the 12 Year Old being released regularly. Sadly, it's not available in the US. Despite the lack of official bottlings Glen Elgin enjoys a worldwide following with its gently floral and spicy house style.
